Drainage is the part of the civils package with the least tolerance for approximation. Pipes work on fall, and a run laid to the wrong invert cannot be corrected by anything downstream of it.

Scope of works
Levels, bedding and jointing
Trenches are excavated to the invert levels on the drainage layout, pipes bedded on granular material, jointed correctly and surrounded before backfill. Falls are checked before anything is covered, because the alternative is excavating a finished surface to find a flat run.
Manhole and chamber positions and cover levels are set from the same drawing, so the finished network matches what will be certified rather than what happened to fit on the day.
Storm water, attenuation and discharge
Most Irish sites now carry a restricted discharge rate, so storm water is held on site in attenuation tanks, oversized pipes or soakaways and released through a flow control. These are installed as part of the drainage package with the invert and cover levels the design requires.
Testing and as-built records
Systems are air or water tested and, where required, CCTV surveyed, and the results are recorded with the as-built layout. That record is what allows the drainage to be signed off and what a purchaser's engineer will ask for later.

Do you install utility ducting at the same time?
Yes. ESB, telecoms, gas and water ducting is installed alongside drainage, often in shared trenches, so ground is opened once and reinstated once.
Is drainage tested before handover?
Yes. Air or water testing is carried out and, where specified, CCTV survey, with results recorded alongside the as-built drainage layout for certification.
Can you connect into an existing drainage system?
Yes. New connections into existing foul, storm and public systems are made and rebuilt to the same standard as new installations, with the surface reinstated afterwards.
