What is drainage & ducting?

Site drainage separates foul water (from toilets, sinks and appliances) from storm and surface water (from roofs, roads and hard standings). Each system is laid on granular bedding to a consistent fall, jointed correctly, and connected to a sewer, treatment system, soakaway or attenuation tank. Rayco Civils installs both systems along with utility ducting across Ireland.

Drainage & Ducting — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between foul and storm drainage?

Foul drainage carries waste water from the building to a sewer or wastewater treatment system. Storm and surface-water drainage carries rainwater from roofs, roads and yards to a soakaway, attenuation tank or watercourse. The two systems are kept separate.

What fall does a drain need?

Pipes are laid to a steady fall set by the drainage design and pipe diameter, so that flow is fast enough to keep solids moving without outrunning the water. We set levels from the drawings rather than eyeing the fall in the trench.

What is an attenuation tank for?

Attenuation holds storm water back on site during heavy rainfall and releases it slowly at a restricted rate, so the development does not overload the receiving drain or watercourse. It is usually a planning or drainage-design requirement.

Do you provide as-built drainage records?

Yes. Drainage and duct routes are recorded as they are installed so as-built information can be handed over for certification and sign-off.
