Concrete Works — Frequently Asked Questions

What concrete strength is used?

Strength class is specified by the engineer for the element being cast — foundations, slabs, beams and retaining walls are not all the same. Concrete is supplied as certified ready-mix to that specification, and cube testing can be arranged on request.

What is a power-floated floor?

A power-floated floor is a concrete slab finished with a rotating float to produce a dense, smooth, hard-wearing surface. It is the standard finish for warehouses, workshops, agricultural buildings and other industrial floors.

How long before a slab can be loaded?

Concrete gains most of its strength over the first weeks after pouring. Foot traffic is usually possible within a day or so, but loading, propping and follow-on trades should follow the engineer's guidance for the mix and element concerned.

Do you supply the reinforcement?

Yes. Reinforcement is supplied, cut, fixed and spaced to the engineer's drawings, and left available for inspection before the pour.
